A dream becoming reality…
The L.I.F.E. Community Center will be a meeting place for families from the local community of Terrat, Arusha. The idea for the center was born back in 2015 and in 2021 we were finally able to acquire a plot of land and get one step closer to our dream. The center has been under construction since 2022 and we hope that we will soon be able to open the doors for the children, young people and families from Terrat. As soon as the roof, electricity and water connections are in place, we want to start slowly, even if this means that the finishing touches to the building will continue in parallel.
For our center, we are planning a daycare for children under the age of three, comparable to our Tiny Steps Daycare, an afternoon program for schoolchildren, leisure activities for young people, tutoring, career guidance and more, as well as a continuing education program for adults. We would also like to support particularly needy families with training and small loans, as well as provide targeted support for children with special needs and show their families prospects.
We can hardly wait to put our ideas into practice! We will work closely with the community to adapt our services to the needs of the local residents.
Our partner from the very beginning for the LIFE Community Center is the German charity Kupanda e.V.
Every donation, large or small, brings us one step closer to our goal of completing the building. We are so grateful for all our supporters!
How to support the LIFE Community Center
We have an ongoing fundraiser on betterplace, through which donations can easily be made. The issuing of a donation certificate is possible via Kupanda e.V.
As soon as the building is finished, we will need volunteers to help us with the content of the center. If you are interested, you can find more information here.
Where is the LIFE Center located?
The Terrat / Intel area is a relatively new part of Arusha, the largest city in northern Tanzania. Many families who cannot afford to live in the city have settled in Terrat. Rents here are still very affordable.
Arusha’s new main bus station is being built in the immediate vicinity of our future Community Center. This will attract even more traders and temporary workers to the already extremely densely populated district. Due to the high proportion of vulnerable minors in the overall population, our center will make an important social contribution to this part of the city.
